Shaun started home brewing in December of 2011 when I gave him “Mr. Beer” home brewing kit for their first Christmas together. His first brew sparked and instant passion for the brewing process. He quickly became an active member of the local home brewing club in Jacksonville.
Shaun owned a pressure washing company for many years and I was in the mortgage industry. We were both making a daily commute to Jacksonville for work, and were getting tired of the commute. We also quickly realized that there were very few craft beer options in the Yulee area without having to drive to Jacksonville or Amelia Island.
In the spring of 2017, we began to research what we would need to do in order to open a microbrewery in Yulee. We discovered there were laws in place in Nassau County that prohibited a taproom that was not also associated with a restaurant. Like many breweries, we wanted to be able to devote all of our energy into a great beer product and were not interested in the food aspect of a brewpub. During the year, we worked with the county in order to change the ordinances so we could open our taproom. The vote passed in November of 2017 and we immediately began looking for a location that would be centrally located and would also provide some food options nearby. By the end of March 2018 we were ready to begin construction.
Since opening August 4th, 2018, we have enjoyed meeting many of the community members from Yulee, as well as neighboring towns. We have begun to develop wonderful relationships with the patrons as well as with other local businesses. We look forward to becoming more active with community events and to be able to give back to the county.
Our goal is to be the local hangout where everyone feels welcome. Come in and have a pint, play some games, make some friends, and hang out a while.
Cheers!
